First Time Having His Molar Tooth Extracted

The boy had his tooth extracted recently. It was actually his fourth visit to the dentist for the last two months. His gum was swollen due to a bad filling. He was given antibiotics the first visit, a medicated filling on the second visit, a temporary filling on the third visit. On the fourth visit he was supposed to get the temporary filling replaced by a permanent filling but his gum was still swollen so he had to have his molar tooth extracted. It could no longer be saved.

He was very brave at first, nodding and asking the dentist questions. He was ok when the Local Anaesthetic was injected but when the dentist started to pull, well, thats when the flood of tears came. He had to be consoled by 2 nursing aids and the dentist. All 3 fussed around him, wiping his tears, offering him warm water followed by a cup of hot milo. He cried and cried.

The dentist was very gentle and patient with him and the entire extraction took well over an hour! He had ice-cream after that and he said today is a bad day at first -100 points for visiting the dentist but +100 points for the ice-cream so it evens out.

Later on (about an hour after the dental visit) his body started to itch and his old spots from last year's epstein barr virus infection started to become inflamed. Red, itchy, slightly swollen and a couple turned into blisters. They look like very bad bruises all over his body. He tends to get this whenever he has a fever and infection.

So it was off to the doctor we went yesterday. The doctor was not sure whether it was an allergy reaction to the Local Anaesthetic or an infectious mononucleosis.  Infectious Mononucleosis - I must remember to check up more on that later. He was given antibiotics for 4 days plus antihistamine and a cream for 5 days.

For the sake of memory, I am recording down the Local Anaesthetic here so that I may refer to it later.

He was given 1.6ml of Scandonest 2% which was injected to the gum. The ingredients in the Scandonest Local Anaesthetic are mepivacaine 36mg and adrenaline 18mcg.

Hopefully he will recover by Chinese New Year.

Perimenopause

During my recent health check, my gynaecologist told me that I am going through perimenopause,  the transition period before menopause sets in. I asked her what that meant and whether it required any treatment but since I did not have any symptoms accept for irregular periods, we decided to leave it alone for now.

My period started becoming irregular when I reached the age of 44. It had been very regular up till then, almost like clockwork and then suddenly it stopped for 4 months. I even thought I was pregnant at the time. I went for a check up then and was told that I was having hormonal imbalances. I told my husband that it explains my sudden bursts of anger. (Excuses. Excuses)

Anyway, since then, my period has been irregular, usually once in 4 months. I haven’t paid much attention to it. I guess I must record it more frequently to know the time lapse between each period.

So, how does it feel like to be going through perimenopause? Just the same, no difference. I feel as young as ever, in my  heart and mind, though not necessarily in body. Be right back

Old Fashioned Wife

Once upon a time there was an old fashioned wife who had an old fashioned spouse who likes his wife to be a SAHM who looks after the kids, is there to greet them from school, feed them, teach them, nurture them and then be there to greet the spouse to feed him and nurture him. Well, something like that.

He got the SAHM part of the bargain and the teach them and nurture them part thrown in. However, since they’ve got a helper at home, his spouse has abandoned housework and cooking! He likes the clean house with the helper’s assistance, much better than when his wife was looking after it. His bookshelves were covered with dust them and his wife often gave the excuse that she has this motto….

“It is better to have a home filled with dust and love then a cold spick and span house.”

Yeah, she made up that household saying all by herself.

A few months after the helper came in and as the helper became better and better with the wife’s guide of course, she slowly let go of the tasks one by one, cleaning the toilets, moping the floor, ironing his shirts, cooking the dinner.

Old Fashioned Man said nothing but in his heart he wanted his wife to cook for him, personally, herself. He also wanted her to iron his shirts and mend his buttons herself but she never did any of those things anymore. She only cooked him instant noodles during the weekends when the helper was busy washing the car.

Well, the thing is old fashioned wife doesn’t really like to cook. To her cooking is just another household task. She does not look at that task with love. If somebody else can do it just as well as her and free her up to spend more time teaching the kids, then why not?

But then …. uh oh…. old fashioned wife forgot that she has an even more old fashioned spouse. So her New Year’s resolution is to spend more time cooking up home cooked meals herself, personally but she still won’t do the ironing, I’m afraid.

Perhaps some kind soul would like to share some simple home cooked recipes with old fashioned wife? She will be so grateful… or rather her spouse would be so grateful. Be right back
